Caramel root beer cupcakes

Did yall know that you can make a cake with a can of soda? I sure didn't. I saw the idea circulating Pinterest, but I didn't really believe it, until I saw this article on Huffpo. Today I whipped together a batch of cupcakes for my small group.

Ingredients:
One boxed butter pecan cake mix
One 12 oz. can of root beer

Procedure:
Preheat the oven to the time designated on the box.
Mix the cake mix and the soda together.

Bake.

Could this be any easier? Literally, it's a walk in the park. Mix and bake. That's it. Can you imagine all the possibilities? Lemon cake and sprite, fanta and funfetti, coca cola and chocolate, so many options!

These taste more like a fall dessert than a spring one, but it's good none the less. I was skeptical about the texture, but the texture was spongy and quite traditional. The flavor is somewhere between a chewy caramel and a nice slurp of root beer. I plan to make these again in the fall and top them with some nice cinnamon cream cheese smear/frosting.
I am so excited that this whole soda and cake box thing works. It will be so fun to tinker with.
If anybody tries this out, let me know, okay?
Go experiment with this. You won't be disappointed.
