Colorful outdoor chandeliers

Have you every felt that your yard is nice, but it just needs more? Maybe a large, brightly colored chandelier hanging from your trees? Yeah? Me too. I've seen different things like this circulating the interwebz, and with good reason; this project is straightforward. Simply put; buy it, paint it, hang it! These chandeliers will give your yard just the face lift it needs, and just in time for Fourth of July festivities too!
You will need:
  • a chandelier
  • spray paint
  • zip ties
  • rope or other suspension system for painting

I purchased both my chandeliers at our local ReStore, and you can find one near you by clicking on the link. As much as I like supporting the Habitat for Humanity, I know that you can find some cheaper on Craigslist, but the selection is lesser and it's a little bit sketchball at times, so use discretion. I am going to buy another chandelier from Craigslist tomorrow for a 5th of the cost of my existing ones, and I'll keep y'all posted.

I used the basic Krylon spray paint from Michaels and it took one whole can per chandelier, so be warned. If you'd like to prime it be my guest, but I didn't think it was worth my time, energy, or money. I figure it's going to get weathered no matter what.
I figured the best way to paint it was to suspend it, so I rigged them up over a low hanging tree and sprayed them. If they have bulbs in them it'd probably be best to temporarily remove them.
Once they were both dry it was time to tackle the challenge of hanging them from the canopy of the trees. I looked for a branches that were more horizontal than they were vertical, and those that had a fork so that I wouldn't have to be concerned about it sliding down the branch.
With the yellow one I wrapped the chain around the branch once and zip tied the last chain to the closest one on the other side (I hope this makes sense). Then I clipped off the excess tie.

Now with the pink one I took a different strategy. I tied 2 of the power cords together multiple times with a simple overhand knot around the branch.

Easy peasy, right? Maneuvering the chandelier and the ladder at the same time was a little difficult, so having a helper would be a nice perk. But hey, I am an independent young woman and I can do it single handedly, so I'm sure you can handle it.

They are just so fun and vivacious! My house is outfitted with a multitude of windows that provide a view of our trees and it makes me so happy to see these little suspended bits of happiness. Just imagine how great they could look in your yard!
