NYC day #4

Man oh man, today was crazy! We visited a variety of sites ranging from relaxing to exciting to nostalgic to somber to awe-inspiring to reverent.

We were planning to meet our friends at the base of the Brooklyn bridge, but to reach our destination we needed to make a brief stop and Grand Central station to catch a train. Oh darn, I guess I ought to take a few photos while we're here.

The attention to detail is impeccable.

We then met up with our friend and made our way across the iconic Brooklyn Bridge.

The easily accessible pars of the bridge are covered in the black marker scrawl of previous tourists. Dad armed me with a sharpie and told me to join the herd. So I chose to be rebellious and left my very vandalistic mark upon the railing.

Once across, we indulged ourselves in the wonderful pizza served at Grimaldi's.

Also, I found this fun purple octopus chair and, well, why not?

We then got stuck in a bit of a downpour, as did these ladies. We waited out the worst of it and boarded a ferry for a brief ride back across the river.

We then stumbled upon the Helipad from the romantic comedy, "Fools Rush In" and that was cool.

On our way to Wall Street we got a bit distracted by all the shiny things and we popped in the new(er) Tiffany's store.

We then visited the hall where George Washington first took the presidency, the New York stock exchange, St. Edwards cathedral, and Alexander Hamilton's gravesite

Next on our agenda was a visit to the 9/11 memorial pools. The pools themselves were amazing. It's shocking to see how big those towers were before the attack. The landscape of the area was forever changed. The most powerful part of the memorial though, is all the names. As I walked around the grounds an saw all the names engraved around the pools I just thought about how ever person had friends, family, and employers. They were all part of their own community, and all those people within their circle were impacted. Each name represent some kind of story. Think about it. The deceased has their story f surprise and struggle or fear or great heroism, the family has their story of grief, pain, loss, and hopefully, healing. The visit had a powerful impact on me.

Once we separated from our friends we headed to 5th avenue to go to FAO Schwarz, but first we stumbld upon these giant connect 4 boards and mom and I played a quick round.

Also on our way we found this giant sculpture., which I found to be very Alice and Wonderland-esque.

FAO Schwarz was a ball of fun, and it's pretty sad that they'll be leaving their long running 5th Avenue location. I had so much fun taking selfies with the stuffed animals.

I purchased this fun Crayola tin and I got to choose 10 crayons of my choice to fill it.

I thought this bit of ceiling was a feast for the eyes.

My family wrapped it up a bit earlier tonight and ate at the Metro Cafe where I had a vegetable soup for dinner and we shared another cheesecake for dessert as well as the addition of a peanut butter brownie.

It's been another well spent day in the city!
