Duck Tour and the Driskill

This afternoon I took a ride in an amphibious vehicle, ate french toast, and nosed our way around a ritzy hotel. You know it's a good three day weekend when you pack all that into a few hours. My friend Nalani was my adventuring partner on my family's outing.
We first took a Duck Tour around downtown Austin and in Lake Austin, duck bill quackers and all.
The truck allowed up to sit up relatively high, and it allowed a new perspective of our eclectic city. Our tour guide was a retired firefighter and drove that truck like a boss. He was well spoken, knowledgeable, witty, and engaging. I learned all sorts of fun little tidbits that I can flaunt around.

Also, you'll notice my fabulous new aviator sunglasses. I ordered them last week from Costco and they came in yesterday. They are my first pair of prescription sunglasses, and it's wonderful to be able to see without squinting, and since I'm driving more I need them. Also, I'd like to think they make me look pretty legit. I love them.

Remember that time a couple months ago when my family went on a Segway tour for my dad's birthday and we discovered that one of our favorite restaurants has a new location in Austin? We returned today and they now have a brunch menu. I chose to deviate from my signature meal and be adventurous and order the Bananas Foster Crunchy French Toast. It was so sweet and amazing! There were chopped walnuts spread on every square inch, the the rum flavored syrup was delectable. The serving size was HUGE, so I shared with everyone. Also, I missed the memo that Bananas Foster was a dessert, so I basically ate dessert for lunch. I'm just bold like that.

Once we had chatted up with the restaurant manager who we are on a first name basis with we headed over the Historic Driskill Hotel, which I wrote about in this post right here.
It is old, opulent, and huge and Nalani and I meandered our way around, going into the deserted ballrooms and lounges and stealing a mint or two from the fancy dishes.

There was gorgeous mural painted on the ceiling and Nalani was infatuated with it.

We saw some really interesting stuff on our walk up and down sixth street, but my favorite, by far, was the cut out that transformed my parents into a casual snack. I mean, really.

Austin is so crazy.
I love exploring it.
