Blanton Museum of Art (photos and commentary)

This morning my family went to Blanton Museum of Art. It is situated in downtown Austin, in very close proximity to the Capital. I'll admit, I wasn't expecting this museum to be as nice or nearly as large as it is. It blew me away. They staff was friendly, the layout was gorgeous, windows were placed around every turn and the art was lit beautifully. (Keep in mind I have been to various art museums outside the country, including; the Hermitage, the MNAC, the Tate, as well as the Huntington, the Getty , and the LACMA in California), Point is, I would consider myself a seasoned art consumer. The Blanton was easily on par with the Tate and the Huntington. It was a fabulous morning.
The modern art gallery was by far my favorite. I like this photo because my shirt matches the drill bit painting behind me.
Here is a good shot of the modern art hall
I loved this oil painting. It is sloppy, yet geometrical. I like, I like,

Another, more abstract oil painting.

This exhibition contains a square filled with $6,000 dollars worth of pennies and a hanging assembling of bones, very interesting. It was all contained within a larger room, sectioned off by black curtains. Multiple children where playing with the pennies, stacking and piling them.

Looks like a pirates loot to me

copper!

SO MUCH LOOSE CHANGE!

Now this is a cool exhibit. A woman made as many of these tablets as she could each day. I like this  because it is a very tangible example of how we are choosing to spend our time. It made me wonder, why some days she made over 20, but then there would be a stretch of 3 or 4 days where she made just a couple or none at all. What is everything we did manifested like this, like a stack of productive things we got done that day, to a point where we could see the rise and fall of our daily lives.

It's like a graph in real life. A graph of your life. Maybe I'll do something like this one day.

This is a circular piece of art made by a mosaic of slate.

This piece was made by stringing together small recycled metal bits with copper wire.

I love the arches and the gently sloping stairwell.

The ombre affect is very well done.

The wall was too pretty NOT to selfie with. haha.

I will definitely be returning to the Blanton in the future. Every Thursday admission is free, and every 3rd Thursday is free yoga with the modern art, which could be a very unique experience. If you are ever in the area I encourage you to stop in, you won't regret it.
Thanks for looking!
