Well, actually it was called an Apple Dapple cake and I first found it via Pinterest. To be honest, the the original recipe was not great. I spiced it up a little and it was absolutely luscious, and strongly reminded me of a caramel apple. It is made with a basic cake mix base and a sweet brown sugar drizzle.
Ingredients:
4 cups chopped apples (approximately 2 apples)
1 cup applesauce
1 boxed spice cake mix
2 Teaspoons vanilla
1 Teaspoon Almond extract
1/2 cup butter
1/2 cup oil
3 eggs
1/4 cup milk
1 cup brown sugar
Procedure:
Preheat oven to the temperature called for on the cake mix box.
Mix eggs, oil, applesauce, vanilla, almond, and chopped apples in a large bowl.
Butter your pan, and bake for the time called for from the box based on type of dish.
When your cake has about 10 minutes left begin to make the drizzle. Microwave the butter until fully melted, and stir in milk and brown sugar.
When the cake has been removed from the oven and is cooling poke a few holes in it evenly with a fork to allow the drizzle to be absorbed. Evenly pour the drizzle throughout the cake, being mindful that it likes to pool around the edges.
Allow your cake enough time to cool and absorb the sweet drizzle before serving, about 45 minutes is plenty.
This photo does NOT do the wonderful dessert justice. This cake is moist, with bursts of flavor from the apples, subtle crunch form the brown sugar, and reminds you of a nice fall afternoon at the fair with caramel apple in hand. I will definitely be making this delightful dish again soon.
Thanks for stopping by!
