Snazzy Alarm Clock upgrade

Yesterday, after waking up at 6:34 on a fine Saturday morning I realized my alarm clock needed help. Yes, I am a high school student who has an actual, tangible alarm clock that sits halfway across the room and allows be to slam the snooze button in the morning, not just furiously tap the screen of my phone. Shocker, I know.
While I was reading a questing about the persecution of the Tutsi (while taking my practice AP test) people it stuck me. I needed to bedazzle it. So I came home and did just that!

You will need:

Hot glue gun with glue sticks
An alarm clock (or whatever you'd like to bedazzle with this technique)
A shallow dish
A toothpick or tweezers
Melty oven beads like those that come with sun catcher kits (Brand name is makitbakit, but usually you can kind cheap sets at the dollar store)

I happened to have melty oven beads lying around and I poured them into a shallow tin lid to make the process a little easier.
Now slather a section in hot glue, and spread it around with the tip of the glue gun. Do small sections at a time so the glue remains hot. I used a my high temp gun so I'd have a little more leeway.

Simply slather the glue and smoosh into the beads. When I pulled mine out of the beads I pressed the beads into the glue some more and brushed off all the excess, but be careful not to slather the glue over the beads.
Just keep going, slather and smoosh, slather and smoosh until you are all the way around.

Here's how I handled the top control panel

A word about permanence: I know you are probably sitting there thinking that this looks all fine and dandy but you just know these beads are going to fall off everywhere. Well, with all due respect, you are wrong. This is practically indestructible. seriously. It held up to some serious rubbing and shaking and general handling. This jazz isn't going anywhere, unless you want it to. I had messed up a section and the whole bit peeled off together and the section of alarm clock was as good as new, Added bonus, when it peeled up it looks all magical.

I'm so happy with the results! This is probably my favorite DIY project I've done in a while. I just love its sparky, colorful, 3Dness! It ought to make getting up in the morning a little brighter!

As I mentioned before, I'm sure this technique could be applied to many other things... just think of the possibilities! Mason jars or TV remotes or toasters or magnets or gift boxes or....

Anyway, thanks for letting me show off my fancy schmancy clock! Hope you find a good reason to get up this week!
