I decided to give myself a bit of a challenge. I wanted to fill an entire canvas with abstract designs using only one brush without washing it, forcing me to get creative when transitioning from one color to another. I started with over 15 different muted/light colors.
Once it was dried using a hair drier I freehanded a favorite expression of mine; "Rats a frats"
If you're not familiar with the phrase, I feel like it is kind of like "Oh darn. That stinks. We will fix that" all in one nice concise phrase. But you have to say it fast to get the whole effect. I wanted to put it on a canvas in the craft room because sometimes I need a reminder that even if stuff comes off the tracks we'll still get through it, and everything will be alright. I like how it is my uneven, imperfect, slanted handwriting. I am coming to terms with my own imperfections because masking them is not worth the effort. The finished project is so colorful and eclectic, and it accents the art above it beautifully. I couldn't be happier with the piece.
Earlier in the morning Nalani had found some lace that she loved and so she integrated it into her canvas. She also included Timothy 2:15- "Do your best to present yourself to God as one approved, a worker who does not need to be ashamed and who correctly handles the word of truth."
Nalani is quite the reader and so she made the cutest little book out of scrapbook paper.
Also, note the impressionistic butterfly that is so on point.
I love doing projects with other people and seeing their own distinct style. Everyone is so unique and different, and I love seeing that variety expressed through art.
