A progressive Austin Adventure birthday celebration

Every now and then time can escape you and things just don't quite happen when you want them to (if ever). Unpacking luggage, washing the car, cleaning those dirty glasses, whatever. Life happens. But 16th birthday celebrations must happen, even if it's 2 months later. Birthdays are crazy special and need to be celebrated-especially a 16th birthday.

My dear friend Hannah has a December birthday, making planning a party much more complex. We picked a weekend a good ways out and I planned a bit of a surprise celebration for her. We decided to make it a private party and not invite anybody else because we're just that cool.

We kicked off our celebratory activities with candles poked in pie serenaded by dinosaurs.

Also gift 1 of 2, which included a tiara, which looks completely natural on Hannah's head. This child is a Disney princess, so of course the tiara looks 110% natural on her.

Last weekend when my family was downtown with for my mom's half marathon I noticed that 6th street is now home to a Voodoo doughnuts. As you probably know, Voodoo doughnuts is a big deal, attracting everyone hordes to come and wait in the lines at their other locations for a chance to enjoy a unique doughnut. I was so excited to see that they'd expanded to have a Austin location, and I immediately decided that we'd have to bring Hannah, the downtown Austin enthusiast, to this new gem.

The shop's motif speaks volumes about the general aesthetics of the place. Funky, artsy, silly, and surprising, just like their doughnuts.

Also Princess Hannah is coordinated and matches the wall.

Only in Austin is live music at a doughnut shop on a Saturday morning commonplace.

Adding to the whimsy, the available doughnuts went round and round.

...and the boxes are pink!

All our doughnuts were completely excellent. Not only did they not disappoint us, they blew our expectations out of the water. We expected them to be pretty, but to taste pretty run of the mill. We were quite wrong, as each doughnut tasted different, each wonderful in their own way.

Once we had made our way through the line (which was long, but went by quickly due to the live music, eclectic decor, and general anticipation) the cashier inquired the occasion for Hannah's tiara, and upon discovery of Hannah's 16th birthday she was granted a super sprinkled doughnut and a literal shout out.

Our next stop was the iconic Peter Pan Mini-Golf, featuring 2 courses with a variety of challenging holes littered with brightly colored statues.

Hannah made friends with the dino so he let her pass. They're buds.

I made a hole in one!

This Tinkerbell's features are surprisingly masculine. It's bordering on creepy, if you ask me.

Hannah being photobombed by a singing ant on a taco. (I wonder if that sentence has been written before?)(I don't know but I love it)

Hannah, our champion, also made a hole in one.

Funky little peacock had to be in our way. Stinker.

I love all the attention to detail that can be seen around the course. Also I'm super pumped for the reemergence of blue bonnets.

After an exhilarating game of mini golf we sat down for a few minutes to open gift number 2. Happy fun times.

We then made our way to Zilker Park, where we rode the Zilker Zephyr, a miniature train that runs a half hour loop around Zilker with Ladybird lake in sight for the duration of the trip.

In the midst of our journey we met this happy, sleepy little stump.

And there was this dude who serenaded us as we went by.

We traveled under a very urban grunge bridge.

And through a cute little tunnel that pretended to be a lil scary.

We ended our day with a linner (a meal between lunch and dinner) of Mighty Fine at The Picnic, a food truck area near Barton Creek. Hannah was twinning with the protective owl. They're adorable. And we all got strawberry lemonade which was such a treat. it made for an excellent end to an excellent day.

On our way out I saw this fun little bit of artwork. And yay. Happy world with happy quote. All the happiness, you feel?

Just so much happiness all in one day. I love celebrating wonderful people. Thanks Hannah for being born. I enjoy you and the opportunity to celebrate you :)

ALSO: Shoutout to my mom for being my legit party planning cohort who loves Hannah just as much as I do and enjoyed our day with us. She's the celebratory ninja.
