Photo Adventure: Zilker Park Kite Festival

Hi friends! Sorry for my apparent absence! I'm pretty sure this has been the longest lapse between posts in my blogging history. This is with somewhat weak  reasoning, but my last 3 weekends have been quite full with various sweet sixteen parties, and my weekdays full of school, schoolwork, and photographing. I somehow didn't manage to finish any of the posts I've started over that time, but they'll come in due course.
Anyhow, I'm back at it today and I have flying happiness to share with you.
Literally. That's not some cute analogy. We went to the Zilker Park kite festival and it was just so exhilarating. So many people flying so many kites. Kids, grandparents, couples, novices, and sages all mixed together for an afternoon of kite flying goodness.
It was a beautiful site to see-all these colorful kites dancing against a sky of puffy white marbled with striking blue.

Hannah, my fellow kite flyer and adventurer, and I tried to fly one of the 4 kites we brought. We struggled a bit at first and then got it up for a moment or two. On our second attempt we thwacked an older lady in the face so hard that her straw, roll up sun visor flew off her head. We pretty much gave up after that and just enjoyed spotting each individual kites, which was exponentially safer for everyone involved.

We saw tie dye kites,

and flying dragon kites,

and big rainbow checkered kites,

and super huge flowery kites,

and rainbow kites,

and shark kites that really just strike me funny. They just look so confused as to how they got up into the sky.

SO MANY KITES!

These are the kinds of days that remind me why I'm so glad we moved to our dear Austin, Texas. I am so grateful for all the opportunities this city provides me with.

Can you spot the pirate ship kite? This was shot before I switched to my 70-200 lens. The kite festival was also an excellent opportunity to gain real experience swapping between and utilizing both of my lenses, so that was fun.

This was an amazing event. Yes, I said amazing. Amazing. The same word I used to describe a package of fruit snacks on Thursday when I was confronted about my use of the superlative by an adult. "If you used amazing to praise a package of gummies, how will you describe the birth of your first child?" Well, *newsflash*, but I'll be using a heck of a lot more words than one. And until then I have no plans to subdue my excitement, so HA. I refuse to live my life just waiting for something I am supposed to be excited about. I will continue to express my excitement over fruit snacks and sprinkles and kites and glitter glue, so, TAKE THAT, ADULT WORLD!
